As we crossed through the portal of year's end in December 2017, we entered into 2018: a High Priestess year. In the traditional Ryder-Waite/Colman-Smith tarot deck, The High Priestess is seated on a white cube, between two pillars, representing logical and intuitive thought. She holds the Torah scroll, signifying a connection to ancient divine wisdom, and a crescent moon rests at her feet. Behind her lies a tapestry of pomegranates (a connection to the goddess and Queen of the Underworld, Persephone) and date palms. The cross at her chest recognizes her seat at the crossroads between the human realm and the divine.
Our entrance to this High Priestess year asks that we bring our attention within: to our bodies, to the cultivation of our innate divine wisdom, to a knowingness that is infinite. Part of what makes the High Priestess one of the most powerful arcanum of the tarot, is the fact that she has literally been to hell and back: she knows both immense light and deep darkness. It is her dynamic dance through light and dark, and her trust in the divine, which allows her to reign with unwavering commitment.
In keeping with our desire to create garments which embody seasonally specific ritual, we have designed the High Priestess leotard in tribute to the deep wisdom of her seat in the Tarot, with a desire to elevate and honor your own dance through light and dark.
This leotard has been y e a r s in the making, because I am meticulously picky about what constitutes a great bodysuit. I have designed this pattern to offer great flexibility in size options: if you happen to have a full bust or tend to need wider hip options with a small waist, this is the leotard for you because it can accommodate any shape. We have also given the option of either self straps (as shown on the model, Maria) or adjustable straps which can be worn either vertically or criss-crossed for more support. Crotch is lined with cotton and heavyweight cotton-lycra cloth is opaque and lovely. These garments are made to last.
Made from beautiful heavyweight cotton-lycra cloth, suitable for dancing, swimming, acrobatics, or ritual use. Constructed by hand with care and purpose: made to last. Our black organic cotton is dyed in a closed-loop system, so that pigments are not released into wastewater.
Organic cotton-lycra cloth is grown and knit in the USA. Cotton cloth is patterned, cut, dyed, printed, and sewn in house by Rachel Blodgett and Sarah Von Sternberg. All designs, vision, and pattern work by Rachel Blodgett.
These leotards are made to order specifically for you, and we are currently running an average of up to 6 weeks for shipment. Because Rachel will be away from August 10-30, there will be a delay for orders placed at this time. Each order will be created based on when it was received. This particular garment will only be created during the year2018.
