For the first time, in celebration of Year of the Leotard (our personal declaration because we are overjoyed by this leotard pattern and have wanted to make them in EVERY color this year !) The Marigold Leotard.
Moving into harvest time, we are metaphorically dropping our leaves: parts of us are lain bare as the veil between worlds grows thin. While we grow anew and blossom outward throughout Spring and Summer, Harvest represents the turning: releasing that which no longer serves us, we listen to what is singing from within: the messages whispered from our ancestors, from our hearts because it is this which sustains us through Winter. In Mexico, marigold flowers are called El Cempasuchil, or flor de muertos (flower of the dead), as they have a strong association with Dia de los Muertos and the altars made to honor those on the other side. These beautiful golden blossoms come into full bloom during this turn toward darker months, offering an opportunity to carry the sun with us: whether through ancestor offerings, dye work, or dried garlands in our homes. The Souvenir collection honors the passing of each season with a rotating offering, infused with botanical dye.
This leotard has been y e a r s in the making, because I am meticulously picky about what constitutes a great bodysuit. I have designed this pattern to offer great flexibility in size options: if you happen to have a full bust or tend to need wider hip options with a small waist (or extra room in the waist- I hate when things are too tight on my stomach...!!), this is the leotard for you because it can accommodate any shape. Crotch is lined with cotton and heavyweight cotton-lycra cloth is opaque and lovely. These garments are made to last.
Made from beautiful heavyweight cotton-lycra cloth, suitable for dancing, swimming, acrobatics, or ritual use. Constructed by hand with care and purpose: made to last. Our black organic cotton is dyed in a closed-loop system, so that pigments are not released into wastewater.
Organic cotton-lycra cloth is grown and knit in the USA. Cotton cloth is patterned, cut, dyed, printed, and sewn in house by Rachel Blodgett and Sarah Von Sternberg. All designs, vision, and pattern work by Rachel Blodgett.
Dyed with fresh Marigold blossoms from Sonoma County, California. Cotton-lycra cloth is Organic and made in the USA. Patterned, Sewn, dyed, and finished in house by Rachel Blodgett with help from Sarah Von Sternberg.
G A R M E N T C A R E: Natural dyes are sensitive to shifts in PH- please do not bleach. For best results, hand wash and store out of direct sunlight when not in use. Expect color to shift over time, in response to the natural minerals in your wash water. This is living botanical color. These pieces are durable and CAN be machine washed and dried if you wish; just be aware that chemical soaps may have an unpredictable affect on the natural dyes, and it is best to wash all delicates in a mesh lingerie bag.
Each Leo is made to order so that we may create them in your personal size- please consult the sizing matrix to review your size, and include as a note with your order. If you fall outside the listed matrix, Please include your custom measurements and we will make you a custom size at no extra charge. Allow up to 6 weeks for delivery.
